Climate and air quality

The Finnish Meteorological Institute publishes bulletins about air quality and is responsible for relevant research and development. It also monitors emissions, heavy metals, environmental poisons and ozone levels. High ozone levels are a health hazard. If they exceed a certain value, the public is informed on radio and TV.

The local authorities are responsible for monitoring air quality locally and releasing information about it. They monitor particles in the air we breathe either alone or in collaboration with other local authorities.
