Most of the production from Finnish livestock is geared towards milk. Pork is the most important meat produced. Livestock production is extremely important for all Finnish agriculture. Two-thirds of the revenue from agricultural markets comes from livestock production.

The reindeer husbandry region covers all of the province of Lapland and a large part of the province of Oulu. Reindeer husbandry is of greatest economic significance in the most remote and sparsely populated municipalities in Finland.
