Forests

Finland is one of the most forested countries in the world. Most of the forests are in commercial use, and trees are grown for the needs of the forest owners and industry. In commercial forests, too, the aim is to preserve biodiversity. Old-growth forests and forests in their natural state, for example, are protected to ensure forest biodiversity. Protection helps to preserve species and habitats.

You can also walk or hunt in the forests and gather berries and mushrooms. Apart from a few regional exceptions, everyone can pick forest berries and mushrooms. Forecasts are made every year of the expected harvest.
