Social insurance for studies and work abroad

Employees and entrepreneurs moving to EU/EEA countries and Switzerland are normally covered under the social security system of the country they are working in, regardless of how long they work there or which country they are living in. Such people have access to the social security system of the country in which they are working as soon as they start if the minimum requirements concerning working hours and pay are met. These vary from country to country.

Students should contact KELA beforehand to find out which country’s social security system they will be covered under while studying abroad.
