Elections and political parties
Political parties are ideological associations aiming to influence social issues. Anyone can become a member of a party by joining a local association. Political parties nominate candidates in elections to influence issues on their behalf. Those who are entitled to vote can found constituency associations which can nominate candidates for elections. Everyone entitled to vote who is not legally incompetent can stand as a candidate.
200 MPs are elected to Parliament every four years. The European Parliament has 13 Finnish MEPs.
