Consumer protection

Finnish consumers’ rights are protected by consumer legislation.

When there are deficiencies in a product or a service a consumer has purchased, the consumer must first contact the seller. If the dispute cannot be resolved or further information is required, primary advice is available from Consumer Advisory Services. Disputes are settled particularly by the Consumer Disputes Board which specialises in consumer issues.

The task of the Consumer Agency and the Consumer Ombudsman is to secure the consumer’s position in financial, health and legal matters and to implement consumer policy. The European Consumer Centre, which operates within the Consumer Agency, helps with questions on trade across borders. The Consumer Ombudsman supervises consumer legislation to ensure it is complied with.
