Occasionally, there may be problems with purchases from abroad, because distance, language problems and different legal and official practices can make clarifying matters difficult. In the European Union, help is available form the consumer authorities. In general, the laws of the country in which the purchase is made apply to these transactions.
There is no customs duty on goods brought into Finland that have been purchased in another EU country. Customs duty, VAT and excise duty may be payable on goods bought outside the EU. The Finnish Customs website gives information on the customs tariffs on different goods and any restrictions connected with them.
