European Union legislation
The European Union Member States have assigned some of their national sovereignty to joint EU bodies through several mutual agreements. Under these agreements, EU legislation has an impact on the national legislation of all Member States and the daily lives of people living in the EU. EU legislation is based on regulations, directives and recommendations.

- Intergovernmental Conference 2007 link
On Monday, 23 July, the EU Member States opened the Intergovernmental Conference in conjunction with a meeting of the General Affairs and External Relations Council. During the Intergovernmental Conference, the Member States will negotiate and adopt amendments to be included in the existing EU Treaties.
