Construction and property

A plot of land, a suitable house for the site and the statutory building permits are essential before starting to build. Designing a building requires cooperation between several planners. The developer is responsible for ensuring that the building is designed and built in line with the appropriate regulations and permits.

In real estate transactions, information is available from the real estate market price register, kept by the National Land Survey of Finland. The register provides information on the basic details of the property and the cost of transactions that have already been concluded.

Permits may be needed for renovation work if the alterations change the building’s façade, for example. The Act on the Protection of Buildings does not prevent repairs for maintaining the building. Repairs that would detract from a building’s value may be prohibited.
