Health

Everyone who lives in Finland is entitled to health care and medical treatment. In emergency situations treatment is provided immediately. The patient’s charter guarantees that treatment is provided within a specified time, even in non-urgent cases.

Public health care is provided mainly by local authorities. They can also buy health care services from private service providers. In addition to health centre services, maternity and child welfare clinics, school health care, medical rehabilitation and dental care are also part of primary health care.

Local authorities also provide specialised hospital care through the municipal hospital districts.
