Food safety

In order to enjoy food safely, special attention has to be paid to food hygiene. The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira gives advice on good hygiene and regulations concerning foods, food transport and self-monitoring.

The packaging information on foods indicates what the product contains, the raw materials that have been used to prepare it and the country of manufacture. People who have to follow a special diet due to an illness, for example, can read the packaging information to find out whether the food contains something that is unsuitable for them.

Information on the additives contained in the product is also given on food packaging. In addition to the functional class, additives are also listed by name and number, i.e. by their E-number. The additives databases provide information on what different additives are used for.
