Food monitoring

Local authority food control inspectors and health inspectors are the right people to contact in cases of poor hygiene, food poisoning after eating at a restaurant or of inadequate labelling in shops. It is the task of officers specially appointed by the local authorities to monitor the safety of raw materials, and the preparation and distribution of foods. They carry out inspections of premises where food is kept, standards of hygiene and labelling, and deal with any failings in these areas.

The Regional State Administrative Agencies control food monitoring by the local authorities. The Finnish Food Authority Evira is in charge of all food monitoring.
