Child welfare

Every child and young person has the right to a safe environment in which to grow up, learn and develop. Municipalities provide preventive and open care services for children, young people and families. If required, municipalities are also responsible for taking children into care and making foster arrangements. Youth emergency shelters are run by the Red Cross.

Employers are required to request a criminal record extract from employees who will be working with underage children. Volunteers are also required to provide an account of any criminal background.
