Age limits
The years following early childhood bring about new rights and responsibilities. Compulsory education begins the year the child turns seven. A twelve-year old has the right to be heard in all official matters concerning him. A fifteen-year old is permitted to enter into an employment contract, given that compulsory education has been completed. Fifteen is also the age when a person can be sentenced to a suspended prison sentence. At seventeen, the payment of family allowance stops and boys become eligible for military conscription. An eighteen-year old is legally an adult and can acquire a driver's licence, vote and run for office in public elections.
