Pregnancy
Child welfare clinics monitor the progression of the pregnancy. Women who are giving birth for the first time attend child welfare clinics more often than women who have had children before. The services provided by child welfare clinics are intended for both parents.
Nurses can give advice on contraception. A pregnancy can be aborted before the 12th week of pregnancy on a decision from two doctors. Information and support on terminating a pregnancy are available from health centres. Terminating a pregnancy after 12 weeks requires permission from the National Authority for Medicolegal Affairs. Permission is only granted on serious grounds, such as the young age of the mother, for example.
