Adoption

Couples can also adopt children. A person who wishes to adopt a child must be at least 25 years old. The local court in the municipality where the future parent or parents live grants the adoption order. People wishing to adopt are required to have adoption counselling, which is provided by local authorities and Save the Children. The aim of the advice is to find out whether the adoption can be carried out and to monitor how well the adoption is progressing. Anyone wishing to adopt a child from abroad are required to get in touch with the local authorities or organisations that are involved with adoptions from abroad.
