Religions and philosophies of life in Finland
You can join a religious community, such as the Evangelical Lutheran Church, by sending or taking along a notification of such to a representative of the community concerned, e.g. the local church, parish authorities, etc. You can also leave the community by notifying this in writing to the religious community in question or the local register office.
The religious status of children is determined under the Freedom of Religion Act and the Lutheran Church’s own legislation. The Register of Religious Associations is kept by the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland, and they are covered under the Association Act.
