National museums

In addition to the national museums i.e. the Finnish National Museum, the Finnish National Gallery and the Finnish Museum of Natural History, Finland has 16 national specialist museums. They are responsible for records, research and exhibitions in their own fields.

The National Museum of Finland, which is under the auspices of the National Board of Antiquities, presents the history of Finnish life. The Museum houses the largest collection of archaeological exhibits in the country. The national specialist museums include the Museum of Finnish Architecture, the Sami Museum Siida and the Museum of Technology.
