Civic organisations and interest groups

There are many active associations and organisations in Finnish society. Almost 125 000 associations operate in different sectors.

Political parties are organisations which participate in politics. Economic interest groups such as trade unions stand up for their interest groups in the labour market.

In addition to political parties and special interest organisations, many other organisations and associations aim to influence the political system and society. These include environmental and human rights organisations and organisations engaged in humanitarian work.

There are also numerous associations in Finland which organise various activities for their members such as sports, fitness and cultural activities.
