Service map
The Suomi.fi service map provides contact and location information for public sector services. The content of the map consists of service locations information submitted by public bodies so far. Please note: in some cases the service point information is in Finnish only. For the time being, the service map is only a pilot project. It is being developed continuously. The National Land Survey of Finland will produce a new, lighter background map for the service during late spring or early summer.
Searching for items
The search criteria used are municipality and service. Type a municipality’s name in the box and press enter. Choose a service by clicking it on the services list. The search for items starts automatically when you select search criteria. The items that meet the criteria are shown automatically in a list on the Search Results tab.
- Alone, the municipality’s name gives all items located in that municipality.
- Alone, the service (e.g. registry office) gives the items of the selected service in the whole of Finland.
- A combined search of municipality + service gives the items of the selected service type in the municipality selected.
Service location symbols
When you run a search for service location, red and white circles indicate items that meet all search criteria. Black and white circles are items that meet some but not all search criteria. For instance, with the search “Kela + Vantaa”, the map view may have areas in Vantaa’s neighbouring communities where the Kela service locations are shown as black and white circles.
Viewing the service location information
When you click the name of a service location on the search result list, the service location is shown on the map. At the same time, its full contact information opens on the Contact Information tab. If the search result included several locations, you can show them on the map simultaneously by clicking the “Update information on the map” button.
When you click a service location shown on the map, a bubble is shown with the name and street address of the location. Clicking the bubble opens the full information on the location on the Contact Information tab.
NOTE: Clicking a service location for information is disabled in large scale map views. The zoom level has to be at least “Kunta” (municipality). Also note that the browser’s Back button does not work with the map.
If the search gives no results
Not all municipalities have service points of all public bodies. One service point may serve the residents of several municipalities. If your “municipality + service” search gives no results, the Search Results tab shows the text ”The following search terms did not return any results”. Below the text there is a link where you can search for the service point serving the area of your municipality.
Map view and printing
The map window has a zoom bar for zooming in and out. The map can be moved with the mouse. Double-clicking on the map elsewhere (not on the search result item) zooms in on the map.
Clicking the Print button opens a new window with the information on the selected service location and a map image. In the printable version, a search result that includes several locations only gives a map image with its locations, but no information on the locations. The information can only be shown in the printable version of a single location.
Other maps of public-sector services
The Kirjastot.fi portal gives information on municipal libraries, including their location on the map. Go to library search
The LIPAS service of the University of Jyväskylä shows sports facilities on the map. Search by type of sport or by municipality. Go to the LIPAS map (in Finnish)
The Excursion Map service by Metsähallitus shows hunting and fishing locations and other locations and services suitable for camping. Go to Excursion Map
Giving feedback
Using the feedback button, you can inform the Suomi.fi editorial team about incorrect service location information or missing items. Suomi.fi checks the location’s information with the organisation responsible and implements the needed corrections to the map.
Data co-operation on the map application
The map application uses the background maps of the National Land Survey of Finland. The address numbers of the buildings on the map are retrieved from the building and apartment registry of the Population Register Centre.
