Mobile use of the portal

The Suomi.fi portal can be accessed from a mobile device. The service has been mainly designed to be light. Thus, it does not have media elements that are slow to download or heavy JavaScript implementations. Suomi.fi can be used from a mobile device as it is, which is why a separate mobile version of the portal has not been designed.

A small amount of the portal consists of elements (e.g. sign language videos) that require flash support to function properly. As all mobile devices do not support flash, the portal has been designed so that all information can also be accessed without flash.

The Suomi.fi portlet in the Suomi.fi/Workspace section for authorities requires a mobile browser that supports javascript. All content in the portlet is accessible in the Suomi.fi portal without javascript.

• The flow and quickness of the mobile use of the Suomi.fi portal can be influenced by changing the browser settings of a mobile phone or other type of mobile device.
• If the page opens slowly, you can stop the browser from downloading picture files which should make the downloading of the page quicker. As Suomi.fi portal's pictures do not include information content, blocking the pictures does not make a difference to the contents of the portal.
• By defining the display screen smaller, the display can show more content at once, but at the same time the font size may get smaller.
• Zooming the pages is possible in many, but not all, mobile devices.
  You should be able to find more specific tips for mobile browsing from the device’s own instructions.

If problems occur in using the browser, a solution could be trying to use another browser in the mobile device. For example, the free Opera Mini is a popular choice for mobile phones.
